Another iPad Review - Part 3: Tablet Computing

January 5th, 2011 8:04 pm

Let me say this about my iPad: I love it. More so than any other device I’ve ever owned. Warts and all… iTunes bullshit and all. It’s the ultimate couch buddy. No, using your laptop while on the couch isn’t the same.

The iPad makes a great reading device. Unlike a laptop no keyboard to get in the way, and if you want to shift your position you don’t have to set the iPad down first. You can just hold it in one hand while moving, and drinking a beer.

Of course you can’t read with an internet connection. Whatever device you buy this year it should have a way of getting onto the internet be it WiFi or a built-in cellular connection to one of the cell companies. That number is easily the most important one listed on the spec sheet. When Apple says it runs for 10hrs on a single charge they're not kidding. The only two things that seem to noticeably drain it are games and video playback. Beyond continuous... »

The Simple Act of Dying

July 6th, 2009 9:22 pm

So in no short order Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Robert McNamara have died. Quite the gauntlet of troubled music superstars, celebreties, and should have been tried on war crimes former Secretary of States. Far more will be written about the first than the other two. I can't seem to... »

New Age of Multimedia

May 26th, 2009 5:44 pm

A couple of quick thoughts: First, if you like sci-fi you need to do yourself a favor and buy a copy of Outlander. It's a modern day retelling of the Grendal/Beowulf myth that isn't heavy handed, mixes aliens/vikings together to your satisfaction, and features a smattering of well shot action... »
